This is a portion of a huge digital illustration I am working on for my portfolio. It's based on William Adolphe Bouguereau's 1879 version of "The birth of venus". [link]
My Final version will contain all the characters from the epic Gosellin saga (the children as the angels, Jon and Haily Glassman as some of the adult figures), and will be printed in an enormous near life sized format to be hung in my school's gallery.
This piece is a part of my as yet unnamed series about celebrity epics with compositions appropriated from famous old paintings.
This peice was also the inspiration for my flourish illustrator brush set, which contains flourishes like those seen around Kate. [link]
Also, A close up of this peice can found here: [link]
Created in Adobe Illustrator CS4: using brush strokes and simple gradients. No gradient mesh
UPDATE: decided to add a texture to the image. plan to add some like this to the final image as well. I think it adds visual depth and also makes it more clear that I am trying to reference old style painting.

Funny, on one episode Jon said that on Valentine's Day, Kate should dress as Aphrodite, and he should be Cupid (in a suggestive manner). Wonder if he knew that Cupid is Aphrodite's son. xD
